FAMU Way Corridor Reconstruction and Extension
Project Summary:
EGS worked with the design team and the City of Tallahassee during the design and planning stages for all three phases of the FAMU Way Reconstruction and Extension. This project transformed a narrow roadway with a steeply sloped, deep drainage channel alongside it into a safe and functional corridor, designed to accommodate multiple modes of transportation. The project consisted of 0.5 miles of reconstruction and 1 mile of roadway extension and created three roundabouts, wide sidewalks, a multi-use trail, a community gathering place, a playground, landscaping, and much more while addressing surface water and groundwater drainage issues. EGS provided geotechnical design recommendations, environmental services, and geophysical analysis to aid in the design of this high-profile Tallahassee project. Construction was successfully completed in 2019 and in 2022 this project received a National Recognition Award at the ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards conference.
