Community Outreach

COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE & OUR COMMUNITY

Community Outreach

At EGS we are committed to community outreach. Our staff routinely assist in local community outreach efforts, and we support local K-12 stem activities throughout the year. We also encourge employees to donate time to a community service project of their choice, and we match their commitment of time with our commitment of financial support. At EGS we believe that if we work together, we can make our communities a better place to live.

Hurricane Idalia Supply Drive and Delivery

In 2023, Hurricane Idalia devastated thousands of people in North Florida. Team EGS was fortunate through the storm and wanted to help those less fortunate. Our team and other local engineering firms collected much-needed supplies for our neighbors. They delivered them to a local church that distributed them out into the community based on the needs of each family. We are very thankful to have a staff dedicated to helping others.

APWA Community Food Drive

In 2024, EGS participated in the American Public Works Association (APWA) Big Bend Branch Annual Food Drive to support the Second Harvest of the Big Bend. This drive helped supply much-needed food items to families in need within our community. The APWA Big Bend Branch is made up of government personnel and consultants. Collectively, the branch collected 1,149 pounds of food items! This was the most significant volume of items donated to date.

FDOT Construction Career Days

EGS has been sponsoring and donating their time to support the FDOT District 2 and District 3 Construction Career Days for a number of years. These are yearly events that are hosted by the FDOT to teach high school students about the various careers in the transportation and construction industries.

Feeding Northeast Florida Project

EGS employees Isabella Caporini, E.I. and Katie Morales, P.E. (not pictured) and the Jacksonville Branch of ASCE partnered with feeding Northeast Florida to separate and prepare food package items for the local community in need.

Hurricane Ida Supply Drive and Delivery

After the tremendous devastation Hurricane Ida caused in our fellow Gulf Coast states and the outpouring of support North Florida previously received following Hurricane Michael, EGS knew we had to help. EGS, in coordination with The Mission Church and Bethany Church in Louisiana, organized a drive to collect disaster relief supplies that were most needed by the community. With supplies from over 30 individuals, 15 engineering firms, the City of Tallahassee, Leon County Public Works, FDOT, ACEC OF Florida, ASCE Jacksonville and Tallahassee Branches, and the FES Big Bend Branch, around $30,000 of supplies were delivered to southeast Louisiana just 2 weeks after the hurricane made landfall.

Sleep In Heavenly Peace

EGS co-sponsors and supports a yearly Sleep in Heavenly Peace event in Tallahassee. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is an organization whose mission is to build beds for children in the community who do not currently have a bed to sleep on, so that “No Child in Our City Has to Sleep on the Floor.” The charity requires that interested parties provide the funds to pay for the bed building supplies, and support on build day to build the bed. Finally, the build Teams then deliver the beds and bedding supplies to the children’s homes, where they install them at the child’s house, for them to use for years. EGS originally co-sponsored the “Tallahassee Engineer’s Build” with Kimley-Horn and Associates in 2022. Still, the event has become so popular with engineers in the community, that the 2023 and 2024 build events were also sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Tallahassee Branch, the Florida Engineering Society (FES) Big Bend Branch, as well as numerous other Civil Engineering Firms in the Tallahassee Area.

Hurricane Michael #Rebuilding Together Project

The entire panhandle and beyond was directly or indirectly affected by Hurricane Michael. As a result, our company went into overdrive to help those in need following the storm. Our firm collected and distributed food and supplies to Panama City and Mexico Beach for months, in conjuntion with the Tallahassee Branch of ASCE, the Big Bend Chapter of FES, and many other local engineering firms in the area.
